The book “the Giver” is about Jonas who lives in a big community. This community has some strange habits and rituals, one of it habits is about the way of coming along with individuals or differences in outward appearance. And in this essay I will talk exactly about the problem how to deal with individuals.

Individuality is a very difficult theme in Jonas community. The Elders are very busy by assigning every person to his own job that fits for him/her and they try to handle everybody with caution. But if someone really is different he is cruelly released from the community (even toddlers). The Rules are very strict and everybody who doesn’t fit in the idea of a good community citizen will be banned. Smaller differences (like Jonas pale eyes) are present but it is a disgrace to talk about these things (even if they are very small).

There are a few more arguments for the impersonality of the community. For example the presents every child get when they have absolved a year. Every kid gets the same presents and the only difference is the name on it. But I think this presents are very good comparable with uniform on schools. Everybody gets the same and no one has an advantage or disadvantage.

Up to a certain age every kid has the same haircut, too, and the girls have to wear hair ribbons. But after this point everybody is allowed to wear his/her hair like they want to.

In conclusion you can say that as a child in the community you have to fallow many rules how to dress. But from then on you will get your own job, own family and you are allowed to dress like you want to.

The first thing I thought when I finished reading the article was “What? How is dead and who is the killer?” than I read it again to understand the chaos of names.

And than I knew, Lori Drew was the killer and she did it knowingly. But I still didn’t understand why Megan hung herself…there was a very simple possibility to quit the whole thing. She just had to turn her computer off.

The second thing I didn’t understand was why Ms. Drew insulted Megan via the MySpace? Was it the revenge for the broken friendship between Megan and Ms. Drews daughter? Friends may come and go, sometimes it’s hard but that is no reason the bully somebody that hard.

The short story “An occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” was written by Ambrose Bierce and was published in his book “The collected works of Ambrose Bierce”. It is written in three chapters.

The story is about a thirty-five-years old planter in northern Alabama called Peyton Farquhar who is about to be hang on the Owl Creek Bridge. Around him are standing his executioners (two Federal soldiers), a sergeant and a bit down the bridge is standing an armed officer in the uniform of a captain. At the and of the bridge also stand sentinels with rifles. Peyton Farquhar is tied up with rope encircled around is neck. His hands are bound on the back.
After the executioners did their job by encircling his neck they stepped back and the plank Farquhar stands on is only held in place by the weight the of sergeant. The captain nods the sergeant and he steps aside.

In the second chapter Peyton and is wife are sitting in front of their farm when a grey dressed rides up the gate and asks for a drink of water. The wife goes inside the house to get the water and Peyton begins to talk with the soldier about the situation at the front. He says that the enemy has captured the Owl Creek Bridge. After the drink the soldier goes on his way. But what the Farquhars don’t know is that he was a Federal scout.

In the third chapter Mr. Farquhar hangs on the bridge. He had lost is conscious because of the unbelievable pain caused by the encircled rope around is neck. He swings around hoping the rope will break. And the rope does it. He falls down into the river and after he got back is conscious he begins to fight against his ties. The Federals on the bridge see him struggling in the water and begin to open the fire. Not to be hit by a bullet Peyton begins to dive. He survives the water and hides hisself in a forest. After a full night of walking he finds the way back to his house where is wife is waiting.

He thinks that everything will be alright now, but then he heard a sound like a shock of a cannon and everything becomes dark. At the end he hangs dead on the bridge because his vision of escaping was just a dream

“Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.”
(John F. Kennedy)

John F. Kennedy wants to express that war must be stopped by mankind because it won’t end itself. If war didn’t end it would probably endanger the survival of humankind.
War becomes heavier and heavier. The most dangerous situation might be a nuclear war…and the next bigger war (may be the third world war) will destroy the humanity.

During his times Kennedy was the mightiest man on earth. Neela is just a “normal” woman who want to effect something. Both protest against war, but each in his own way. Neela planed the “Hands up for Peace” campaign to get as much attention as possible. She does exactly what Kennedy wants to achieve with his speech. He wants people to do something against war. Not just accept it.
The mankind has to avoid war. That’s what Kennedy said and Neela tries realize.

Neela and her Friends planted thousands of hands (made out of paper) on the Parliament Square. They wanted to get the attention from the government to advise the government, that war isn’t the right decision.

They wanted the government to think about the war against Iraq. If it is really necessary to be at war with Iraq.

On 9th October 2009 Barack Obama received the Nobel Prize for Peace…but why did he get it? Many didn’t understand it.
They asked: Why? He didn’t DO anything, he just talks.
Otherwise some people say, that he has deserved it because it’s the right way to honor his good decisions.

But what is right?
In the context of the story in your book you can put Obama on the same level as the preacher and Andy as the one how does something.
In the story Andy and his friend Tommy are the bad, bad boys wich have been banned out of church. And instead of doing nothing they decide to get some food. On the way they meet a homeless man who is asking for some spare change and Andy says to him that he would be happy to invite the bum for a meal. During this the preacher gives a sermon in the church

What is more worthwhile? Some people say “Actions speak louder than words” but is this correct?
I say it’s neither right nor wrong. Without the one of these the other wouldn’t exist.
Without acting everybody would talk and nobody does something.
Without speaking nobody would understand what you are planing to do.

I would change something in the education…
In my opinion 12 years are too short to learn everything you need to pass your “A-Level”.
Well, to reduce the time from 13 years to 12 years has financial reason, more pupil can graduate more quickly. You don’t need so much space, you don’t need so many teachers and you don’t need so much money to pay all these.

At the other side it has as many disadvantages as it has advantages.
But all the trouble, caused by the project aren’t the problems of the government…the pupiles and teacher has got to handle it. Roughly speaking, you can say, that everybody has to work more than 10% faster than before, accept the people who caused it.

I think that’s not the way it should be done.

There are three possible ways to deal with it.
You can let it happen, sit back and say “that’s not my problem, i’ve got thirteen years.
You can protest for less subject matter.
Or you can try to animate Department of Education to call back the law.
